“The Lord gave,
and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.” Job 1:21
This verse has been misinterpreted throughout the
Christian world which blames Jesus Christ for any disaster that happens in any
part of the world. I have heard priests quote this verse during funerals and
very recently, I happened to see Job 1:21 written on a house damaged due to the
tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma. I firmly believe the person who wrote it has
the same mindset of Job. In Job 38:1, “the
Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said: “Who is this who darkens
counsel by words without knowledge?” Don’t you think this is happening even
today?
Job did not fully understand the Lord which he himself
admits in Job 42:3 “Therefore I have
uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not
know.” He goes on to say in Job 42:5, “I
have heard of You by the hearing of the ear.” Most Christians are likewise.
In my own life, I would say that my Jesus carried me in His hands. What would I do without Jesus in my life?
As we read Job 42:10 we find “The Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed
the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.” God does not take
away anything from us. In fact, He is a giver. In this context we should know
who takes away things from us. John 10:10 says, “The thief does not come except to steal and to kill and to destroy.
I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.”
In order to have a closer relationship with the Lord
Jesus we need to read our Bible. Do not be led astray by wrong teachings. Joshua
1:8 says, “This book of the Law shall
not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate it day and night …For then
you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success.”
